What we do

We support, care, train, and raise awareness

We are present in nine sub-Saharan African countries—Angola, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, the Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda—to ensure the right to health and access to care for people living in the most vulnerable contexts. In hospitals, small health centres, villages, and universities, we work every day alongside local communities to provide concrete responses to people’s needs and, together, to strengthen health systems.

We focus particularly on mothers and children, ensuring assisted deliveries and newborn care, fully aware of the importance and value of the first years of life.

We work to ensure that nutrition is a right for all, and we continue to act against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, supporting prevention and the management of health emergencies, as we did during the Ebola outbreak in 2014.

We also address the challenges posed by climate change, which increasingly affects people’s health. We promote sustainable solutions, strengthen health systems, and support communities living in areas most exposed to extreme weather events.

We aim to reach both major cities and the most remote areas, promote good prevention practices, raise awareness of people’s rights, respond to emergencies wherever and whenever they occur, and help turn them into opportunities for development.

In Italy and Europe, we continue to look towards Africa through awareness-raising activities and the promotion of values such as justice and equity in health. We strongly believe in training as a driver of social change and offer courses for doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals. We invest in young people by involving medical students in field internships.
